This side-scrolling platform title is full of artwork, animations, and inside jokes from the popular British television series Monty Python's Flying Circus, which originally aired on the BBC in the early 1970s and enjoys continued popularity in syndication around the world. The player guides D.P Gumby through four 'completely different' worlds, in search of parts of his missing brain. The game's graphic style is based on the cutout animations of Terry Gilliam and should be instantly familiar to fans of the television show and movies.
Although the action in the gameplay is simple and relatively straightforward, the designers seem to have gone to great lengths to add Python-esque references wherever possible. As Gumby makes his way through each level, he must collect cans of Spam to win a piece of his brain at the end. One mini-game challenges the player to contradict everything the on-screen character says in the style of the 'Argument Clinic' sketch.

And now, for something completely different.. the larch. Ah no, I mean Monty Pythons Flying Circus. In this game, you're a loonie. Things start out as an ordinary, be it highly eccentric, platformer, but soon enough, your body gets transformed into that of a fish. From here on, the game is an ordinary, be it zany shoot'm up in the style of Gradius and Zero Wing.
While avoiding various cameos of things and people from the television series, you shoot your way through sewerpipes, following the way pointed out by pointing white gloves. As you do so, you can collect powerups that will restore your health. Sausages, baked eggs, cans of spam.. you'll see it all.
From time to time, your progress will be put to a stop as you reach a boss. These include a renaissance guy with a propellor on his head, shooting at you, the Spanish inquisition, throwing pillows and a traffic cop, protected by a line of trafficsigns. Although these bosses are relatively hard to beat, they're great fun too, simply because of their sillyness.
Of all the absurd games I've played, this one feels most naturally absurd. It will put a smile on anybody's face, wether they are old Monty Python fans, someone who likes a laugh, gamers and museum curators.
What a weird game. Don't think I'd have the slightest idea what the goal of this one might be. But on the other hand I am a big fan of Monty Python and if you know that great series (the films are great too, but they don't help you with this game) you'll recognize some familiar things..
Just don't get confused by unexpected things that happen, coz' - well - that's the concept of the game. The graphics are made up in the style of the legendary cartoons you might know from Monty Python's Flying Circus and so is the gameplay. Run around as a man, swim as a fish - and now for something completely different.. Have fun!

The game is fun to play, easy to control, and oozes (yes, oozes) plenty of Python-esque humor (your score goes down the better you do, for example - the lower the score you have, the better). Monty Python fans certainly can appreciate the humor and references to the series, but the game is a lot of fun even if you've never heard of them (and if you haven't, you owe it to yourself to watch the group's incredibly funny Quest For The Holy Grail movie). Highly recommended!

In the game itself you are armed with fish to shoot at the bad guys, your score goes down the better you do (Yes, the less your score is the better you've played). This is packed with Monty Python humor and I had a jolly good time playing it.
